Strategic Plan, 2007-2011
The staff of the New York State Archives and the Archives Partnership Trust have collaborated on the development of this strategic plan for the State Archives. This document provides the mission and vision statements that guide the direction of this organization. It also includes the goals for the ongoing operation of this organization. Each of these goals will be addressed in more detail through the annual efforts of each program as evidenced in their work plans. For every goal area there will be continuing progress in moving forward these core programs and services of the State Archives.
This document also identifies four strategic priorities for the next 3-5 years. While maintaining and moving forward in the ongoing areas of operation, these priorities will receive the focused attention of the entire organization. The intended result will be significant progress and development in these four areas. These priorities were selected based on a series of discussions in which staff considered a range of areas where progress is particularly important. Final selection of the strategic priorities was informed by the assessment of current and projected conditions in the State, in State government, and in professional directions for the records management and archives profession. The priorities identified here are those we believe have the best potential for being supported and achieved in the next several years.
If these strategic initiatives and continuing operations are to be successful, the Archives must also work to improve its own technology infrastructure and support. We also need to be attentive to staff by encouraging a facilitative working environment, continuing to champion staff development and ensuring knowledge transfer among those staff with special or long term knowledge. A final and critical consideration will be obtaining better financial resources to support the essential and constantly expanding responsibilities and services of the Archives.
