Strategic Priorities
Develop and implement a program to manage all records of New York State government effectively including executive agencies, the executive and the legislature.
It is essential that New York have full, consistent, and equitable documentation for all important state governmental functions. The Archives will provide the necessary framework and services to manage records from the time they are created until they can be destroyed or transferred to the State Archives.
Activities in 2007-08, 2008-09 to support this priority:
- Create a collection policy statement for executive, legislative and judicial records.
- Implement a strategy for establishing laws ensuring that governor’s records and other archival records of state government are preserved and accessible.
- Promote the requirement that all state agencies maintain an up-to-date inventory of records and information systems.
- Provide the capacity for state agencies to conduct records management for inactive records in the Records Center online.
- Develop the State Archives’ public access disclosure procedures.
- Define the relationship of legislative collecting policy to other repository collecting practices.
- Identify key legislators to legislative committees to approach and initiate contact.
- Initiate discussion with the Office of Court Administration on disposition of archival court records and a judicial collecting policy.
