State Archives Participates in Bard Graduate Center Exhibit
The New York State Archives is pleased to participate in "Dutch New York Between East and West: The World of Margrieta van Varick", an exhibition at the Bard Graduate Center. Bard's innovative approach translates the probate inventory of Margrieta's possessions, compiled in 1696 and part of the Archives' holdings, into an exhibit of similar collections from over 60 lenders, to create a sense of her time and place. It poses and answers the questions, "What can an inventory tell us? How can we use an artifact of the legal system to tease out relationships between people and their relationship to things?"
The exhibit is presented at the Bard Graduate Center from September 18, 2009 till January 3, 2010. Please see the Bard Graduate Center web site for more information.
