William Josephson Wins State Archives Award

October 28, 2011

ALBANY -- The New York State Archives and the Archives Partnership Trust have selected William Josephson, Of Counsel at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson, LLP, to receive the 2011 William Hoyt Annual Archives Award for Advocacy. The award is named after the late Assemblyman William Hoyt from Buffalo, who was a staunch supporter of archives and records management in New York State.

The award was presented to Mr. Josephson at a luncheon ceremony at the Cultural Education Center in Albany on October 25, 2011.

This award recognizes Mr. Josephson’s sustained efforts and continuing commitment to ensuring the preservation of, and access to, the archival records of New York State through his support of the work of the State Archives.  He has served as a member of the New York State Historical Records Advisory Board and the Board of the New York State Archives Partnership Trust and has generously offered assistance and advice to the State Archives on many fronts, particularly on issues related to the records of New York’s executive office.

“We are pleased and honored to recognize William Josephson whose guidance, support and wise counsel helped a fledgling Archives Partnership Trust find its place in the fundraising world.  More recently he has offered sage and sound advice, made contacts and introductions and provided expert guidance that will ensure the permanent preservation of some of New York’s most important records” said State Archivist Christine Ward.

Previous winners of the William Hoyt Annual Archives Award for Advocacy include Assemblyman Sam Hoyt and Senator Neil Breslin (2010); Thomas Clingan, Albany County Clerk (2009); Archivists Roundtable of Metropolitan New York (2006); Mary Lou Rath, Member of the New York State Senate (2004); Paul A. Tokasz, Majority Leader, New York State Assembly (2004); Hector Diaz, Bronx County Clerk (2004); Frank Merola, Rensselaer County Clerk (2004); and Patricia Bryce, Deputy Director, Albany County Hall of Records (2004).
