A Strategy for Openness: Enhancing E-Records Access in New York State
As mentioned last week, OFT and the State Archives issued a report on May 22nd that examines how the state can provide choice, interoperability and vendor neutrality in electronic document creation while ensuring electronic records are preserved and remain accessible. A Strategy for Openness: Enhancing E-Records Access in New York State makes recommendations to promote openness and transparency aimed at ensuring public records remain free from being locked into proprietary systems and software applications.
The full report is available on the New York State Office for Technology website at http://www.oft.state.ny.us/Policy/ESRA/erecords-study.htm.
Records Center
When you receive transfer list reports and records disposition notifications from the Records Center, they will indicate whether disposition will be by destruction (code D) or by transfer to the State Archives (code T, formerly A). Please be sure to compare the reports and notifications to the original transfer lists prepared by your agency, and inform assistant manager David Lovell (dlovell@mail.nysed.gov, 457-3172) or manager John Welter (jwelter@mail.nysed.gov, 457-4801) of any errors. Thank you for helping us to ensure the accuracy of the data about your records in storage.
