New York frequently suffers from large-scale disasters that affect broad swaths of the state. In such cases, records are always in danger of destruction. This presentation will explain how the State Archives staff across the state work to help state and local government avoid records disasters, respond effectively to such disasters, and help people deal with continuing records issues caused by these disasters.

This presentation will use excerpts from the "Intergovernmental Preparedness for Essential Records" curriculum, produced and supported by the Council of State Archivists and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, to illustrate some relevant issues.
