New York State Canal System, 1827-1925
This collection consists of a selection of drawings, plans, images, maps, and surveys of state canals. Of note are the Holmes Hutchinson survey maps, covering the Erie Canal, Champlain Canal, Crooked Lake Canal, Cayuga Canal, Seneca Canal, and Chenango Canal. Also included is Governor DeWitt Clinton's 1816 "New York Memorial" petitioning the Legislature to create the Erie Canal.
