Motion Picture Case Files

This collection consists of a sampling of case files compiled by the New York State Motion Picture Division as part its responsibility to review the moral character of films intended for public exhibition in the state.  The case files contain the script for each film, and may also contain any of the following records: application for initial license; applications for duplicate licenses; copies of initial and duplicate licenses; an examiner's report; an amended film transcript if changes were made; receipts for seals issued; or related correspondence, newspaper clippings, and promotional ephemera.  The items in this collection were selected from the following record series:
