Photograph of a French orphan, Joseph Audeon. Joseph's father was a decorated soldier who had been awarded the war cross with a palm and won the citation of the order of the regiment. His father died in World War I on September 25, 1915. As an orphan, Joseph received assistance from the school children of Malverne, N.Y.
