New York State Archives, NYSA_A0412-78_B08_F61_Peekskill_letter

Document Description
May 31, 1917 document describing the NYS Military Cadet Corp summer camp for boys ages 16-19 in Peekskill, New York, and the names of the boys selected to attend the camp who were from Ticonderoga.

Historical Context
During the First World War, it was soon realized that the United States Army needed to train and enlist more soldiers.  At times, this meant preparing boys not yet of enlisting age for military service.  As seen in this letter, one such facility was established in Peekskill, New York.  Here, boys between the ages of sixteen and nineteen would spend the summer learning infantry skills from camping to shooting.
