Document Description
This is a schedule for the cannonade that marked the opening of the Erie Canal, 1825, from Cadwaladar Colden's Memoir. A cannonade was a "chain" of cannons strategically located along the canal route. Every minute, one after another, a cannon was shot off in town after town, starting in Buffalo and continuing east along the canal route to Albany, and then down the Hudson River to New York City.
