Historical Context
As the need for a larger army became more apparent, many young men were encouraged to leave school, join the army, and complete their schooling after the war was finished. The training detachment pictured here was raised by the Oswego Board of Education at the State Normal School, a school for those who had completed high school and wanted to go on to be teachers.
