Preservation and Access

The New York State Archives preserves these records because they help to document the immediate aftermath of the attack on the World Trade Center and New York State's involvement in the recovery effort. Ensuring that these materials remain accessible to future generations will require particular care and effort: unlike paper records and microfilm, which will last for centuries if they are housed and stored properly, electronic files will survive only if they receive frequent and ongoing attention.
