Summary: |
The Adirondack League
Club was founded in 1890 to promote the conservation of the
forests, fish, and game of the Adirondack region of New York
State. Records consist ofcorrespondence and reports generated
by the Club's consulting engineer, Theodore Horton, relating
to sanitaryconditions at the Club's Adirondack lodges and
cabins. Included are surveys of the water supply and specificatiofor
improving garbage and waste disposal; a blueprint for a standard
garbage incinerator; a map of the Adirondack Parand three
maps depicting allotments bordering Little Moose Lake, First
Bisby Lake, and Lake Honnedaga. |

Overview
Records consist of correspondence and reports generated by the Club’s
consulting engineer, Theodore Horton, relating to sanitary conditions
at the Club’s Adirondack lodges and cabins. Included are surveys of
the water supply and specifications for improving garbage and waste
disposal. Also included are a blueprint for a standard garbage incinerator,
a map of the Adirondack Park, and three maps depicting allotments
bordering Little Moose Lake, First Bi Lake, and Lake Honnedaga.
Biographical Sketch
The Adirondack League Club was founded in 1890 to promote the conservation
of the forests, fish and game of the Adirondack region of New York
State. Founding club members included: Mills W. Barse, Abraham G.
Mills, Warner Miller, Robert C. Alexander, Ole L. Snyder, and Mark
M. Pomeroy. Presently, the Club is governed by elected officers and
appointed executive committees, and member vote on by-laws and regulations.
The Club maintains a privately owned land preserve for the use of
its members for the purposes of hunting, fishing and recreation. At
one time the Club owned as much as 128,000 acres within the Adirondack
Park. Presently the Club owns approximately 53,000 acres and continues
to promote conservation of the wildlife and forests of the Adirondack
region. The Adirondack League Club also owns and operates lodges and
cabins within the Adirondack Park for use by members. Its headquarters
are located in Old Forge, New York.
