SUNY Plattsburgh Wins State Archives Award

Friday, November 6, 2015

The New York State Archives and Archives Partnership Trust have selected the Feinberg Library Special Collections and College Archives of State University of New York (SUNY) Plattsburgh as the recipient of the 2015 Annual Archives Award for Program Excellence in a Historical Record Repository. This award is presented annually to an organization in the state that exemplifies excellence in an archival program. The award was presented to Debra Kimok, Special Collections Librarian, and Gina Doty, Records Management Officer, at a luncheon ceremony at the Cultural Education Center in Albany, held recently.

This award recognizes the SUNY Plattsburgh for their exceptional work in the field of digital preservation.  This award acknowledges the dedication, vision, and creativity demonstrated by Gina Doty and Debra Kimok as they forged relationships and assessed SUNY Plattsburgh’s digital preservation needs and generously shared their successes and challenges with the wider professional community.

“Digital preservation is a complex field requiring expertise and cooperation from archivists, records managers, administrators, and information technology professionals,” said Acting State Archivist Thomas J. Ruller.  “SUNY Plattsburgh and its staff have made an enormous contribution to the preservation of their university’s digital records - a contribution that has produced successes well beyond the scope of this endeavor.”

The annual Archives Awards program takes place every year in October, during American Archives Month, and recognizes outstanding efforts in archives and records management work in New York State by a broad range of individuals and organizations.
