Directions

Complete the task below by writing an essay based on the documents provided and your knowledge of social studies.  Your essay should be at least four paragraphs in length, and should contain an introduction, at least two body paragraphs, and a conclusion.

Historical Background

Throughout the course of World War I, Americans made tremendous contributions and sacrifices in many aspects of their lives to support the war effort.

Task

Using information from at least five of the documents provided, your knowledge of social studies, and outside information:

Write a well-developed essay explaining how Americans who were not a part of the military supported the troops and the war effort during World War I.

Remember: 

• Use at least five documents.
• Bring valid outside information into your essay.
• Explain the facts used in your body paragraphs.
• “Explain” means to analyze the importance or meaning of.
• Develop an effective thesis and a relevant introduction paragraph.
• Do not simply repeat your introduction paragraph for your conclusion paragraph.
