The State Archives holds the historical records of the Governor's Office dating from 1777 to 1992.  These records  document the official activities of New York's governors and their executive staff.
Despite some missing and dispersed records, the State Archives preserves a large and important body of gubernatorial records which, due to the governor's role, document nearly every aspect of State government operations. The State Archives also holds many more records documenting the functions and operations of all the agencies under the governor's leadership.
