Preservation of Historical Records

This workshop will explore the fundamentals of preserving records. Where and how archival records are stored, and how they are handled, are key elements in prolonging their lives. Participants may bring examples of records needing preservation for an open discussion period.

Participants will learn about:

  • Appropriate environmental and housing conditions
  • Proper handling techniques
  • When it is appropriate to seek conservation treatments
  • The options available in preserving records
  • The difference between preservation and conservation
  • Establishing preservation priorities
  • Assessing a collection and its preservation needs
  • Where to go for more help
