Application

The New York State Archives accepts online applications for DHP Grants: https://dhpgrant.smapply.org/

For assistance with the online application or for more information about the DHP, contact us at:

Eligibility

Eligible applicants include not-for-profit organizations, archives, libraries, historical societies, and similar institutions within New York State and consortia or partnerships of such agencies. Historical service agencies, colleges, universities, professional associations, and other not-for-profit institutions or systems that provide public access to historical records are also eligible.

Before applying, please review in full the DHP Grant Guidelines and Resources and our Frequently Asked Questions to learn about eligible project types, topical priorities, and complete application requirements.

Prequalification

New York State has implemented a statewide prequalification requirement for not-for-profit organizations applying for grants. In order to be eligible to apply, all grant applicants (including DHP grant applicants) are required to prequalify using the Statewide Financial System (SFS). Effective January 16, 2024, the SFS prequalification process replaces the former process through New York State Grants Gateway. The SFS prequalification registration process requests information about an organization's capacity, legal compliance, and integrity. This process may  take up to a few weeks to complete. Begin the prequalification registration process immediately if you are considering applying for a DHP Grant.

Resources

DHPSNY and Grantspace provide a number of free resources to assist with proposal writing and budget development for grant projects. A full list of project planning resources is available in the DHP Grant Guidelines.
