The New York State Archives holds over 250 million historical records dating from 1630 to the present. These records were created by the governments of New Netherland and the colony and state of New York for legal and administrative purposes. Today they are available for research on many aspects of New York's long history - not only the workings of the colonial and state governments, but also the environment, economy, society, regions, communities, and people of the Empire State.
